Tree Research Director and Lead Consultant
Charlie is the founder and lead consultant of Tree Research Limited. Originally trained as an arborist, he has been working in the arboricultural industry for over twenty years - managing, maintaining and creating historic gardens and parklands in the UK.
Charlie’s love of trees and interest in their environmental impact inspired him to establish Tree Research in 2004, as a means of protecting tree populations and enhancing our appreciation and understanding of them. A naturalist at heart, Charlie has an intuitive sense of what trees need, and can source, supply, plant and care for trees in a variety of environments.
His aesthetic inspiration derives from the gardens and parklands of Capability Brown, in which he grew up. His planting schemes reflect this by blending formal gardens and topiaries seamlessly into parkland and the surrounding countryside.
Charlie has extensive experience in both the private and public sector, having worked in small private gardens and large parklands. Past projects include, Soho Farmhouse, the Great Tew Estate, the Duchy of Cornwall Estate, Bonhams, Shoreditch House, Longleat Estate, Dodington Park Estate and Farmington Estate. Television work has included supporting Jimmy Doherty on Channel 4’s Jimmy’s Forest Project.
Charlie is a member of the International Dendrological Society, a friend of the Society of Garden Designers, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture and is qualified as a professional tree inspector under the government training body, LANTRA.
