About us:
We are a family run business looking for a General Manager and Project Supervisor to help deliver our extensive range of tree planting projects across the South West.

We manage private and commercial client landscape projects, mainly focused on the research, sourcing, supply and planting of excellent quality, hard to find or specialist trees from the UK and Europe.

We deliver creative tree planting schemes on behalf of several of the industries leading garden designers, and in some of the UK's most high-profile private properties and commercial development sites.

Our ethos is focused on unrivalled quality of service and a deep understanding of specialist trees handpicked for sites with significant design requirements.


Job Title: General Manager (Horticulture)
Reporting to: Company Directors
Hours: 40 hours a week (require flexibility in hours)
Salary: Competitive depending on experience

Key Tasks

  • Manage and oversee soft landscaping projects from conception to completion at private parks and gardens, historic landscapes, hotels and development sites

  • Establish and maintain high horticultural standards and practices, providing direction, training, motivation, and increasing staff productivity, improving service and meeting business objectives

  • Identifying business opportunities and monitoring financial activities

  • Developing and implementing growth strategies

  • Ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards, whilst maintaining control of operational costs, programming and monitoring of work are all pivotal to the role

  • Ensuring knowledge of current industry best practice and all associated knowledge is maintained at an excellent level by attendance of events and training

  • To develop and implement strategic financial and marketing programmes

  • Implement creative ideas from the Directors into workable solutions whilst being business focused and sales driven

  • Liaise with clients to ensure projects run smoothly and to timescale

  • Manage the team supervision involved in the projects to ensure effective loading of trees, materials and plant hire

  • Ensuring Project Supervisor carries out vehicle checks, risk assessments and records this data on a weekly basis 

The Candidate
Your entrepreneurial spirit and vision in directing business functions will assist our organisation in maintaining relationships with clients and generating new business.

  • Applicant needs to have at least 5 years’ upper level management experience in the landscape industry, and ideally will have experience of planting and handling mature trees and topiary

  • Applicant will also be expected to meet provide horticultural advice and support to clients and to planting teams. This is a hands-on role where you will be expected to ensure that work is completed to a high standard and within agreed timescales.

  • Good management skills are important as is the ability to develop good working relationships with clients and colleagues alike

  • The successful candidate will be an influential individual and strong leader with the ability to develop and grow sales, marketing, operations and the Landscaping team. They will be ambitious and be a confident commercial decision maker who can develop business strategy to achieve targets set

  • Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel and Outlook) as your role will be at least 70% office based. Creating designs, able to read technical drawings, and CAD experience would be advantageous

  • Applicant will need to show demonstrable passion for environmental issues and sustainability, with an understanding of the environmental sector

  • You will need to be comfortable working in a complex and fast changing environment, able to see the big picture and monitor and assess the external context to identify risks and opportunities

Job Title: Project Supervisor (Horticulture)
Reporting to: General Manager
Hours: 40 hours a week (require flexibility in hours)
Salary: £22,500 plus regular overtime

The Role

  • Supervising and working alongside our project teams on tree planting and landscaping operations

  • Visiting sites to monitor sub-contractors on their progress and quality of work

  • Communicating health and safety information as provided by the general manager

  • Liaising with clients or site contacts regarding delivery dates and project schedules

  • Working to completion targets set by the general manager

  • Sourcing and ordering plant machinery, equipment materials

  • Assisting with the maintenance of the Tree Research yard including watering operations, maintaining stock levels, equipment and materials

  • Assisting with the maintenance of all machinery, equipment and vehicles including vans, plant machinery and helping record this

  • Carrying out risk assessments and stock control reports

  • Continued training in the landscape industry as well as increasing knowledge of trees, their establishment and maintenance

  • Work in any part of the UK (including occasional overnight stays) as occasionally required by projects. (Majority of work is based in the South West/Cotswolds area and London)

Essential

  • Practical experience in landscaping or gardening

  • Good communication skills with the ability to supervise staff

  • Good plant and tree identification

  • Relevant qualification in Horticulture, Landscaping or Arboriculture

  • Full, clean EU/UK Driving license

 Desirable

  • Experience of dealing with customers

  • First Aid Certificate

  • Any of the following driving license categories: BE, C1, C & C1E

  • NPTC Certificates for PA1&6, Landscape Equipment and Machinery

  • CSCS Card

  • NPORS Card: All terrain Telehandler

    Plant and tree knowledge including Latin names and species soil requirements
